Doctor Update

We had another diabetes meeting and ultrasound yesterday and everything looks great they said!

The biggest concern for a baby of a type 2 diabetic is that they will get to large. Our little girl is in the 50-60th percentile, so right where she should be. 🙂 She weighs 2lbs 15 oz at this point. The nurse said that I am doing great with my blood sugars and the only concern she had was that one morning my fasting (right when I wake up) was 52. That is REALLY low. I did not have any symptoms of hypoglycemia (dizziness, shaking). So, we are not worrying to much. They did prescribe us a emergency shot that Dan would give me if my blood sugar was so low that I was unconscious. Let’s hope we never use it because I was nervous watching him learn.

We did not see much on the ultrasound. She was being a bit stubborn. Her head was facing down and her butt was up by my ribs. All they could really see was an ear and that she has a little hair.

Since I am in the 3rd trimester my appointments are really ramping up. After February 2 I start seeing my OB every two weeks, then at 36 weeks every week. On the diabetes management side I start weekly non-stress tests from 30-34 weeks and 34-40 weeks I go twice a week. I will continue the diabetes meeting every other week, but as I progress those might become weekly as well. We also have ultrasounds at 32 and 36 weeks.

The doctors and nurses say that this pregnancy will become like a part-time job and they are not kidding. I guess another reason it is a blessing that my regular job is now a part-time job.

We also start our birth class on February 1 and we are taking a breastfeeding class in mid-march. So, remember when I said I feel bored?? Well, that is gone 🙂

Belly Button in or out? In, but starting to stretch a little.

What I am looking forward to: Alaska, finishing up baby shopping, getting her room all put together. Oh, and another ultrasound today!!!

Milestones: I am into the 3rd trimester! We are 70% done!

Should I be bored?

I am 27 weeks pregnant and really bored of this whole pregnancy. I am wondering if this is just a lull or what. We have crossed a lot of the firsts, and we know what the gender is. Aside from those things we are pretty much just waiting. I think part of it is that we are getting close enough to the end to start being excited, but are still far enough away that it seems like a LONG time until we meet this little one.

Luckily we have some stuff coming up to split up the time 🙂

This weekend we are doing some baby shopping. Car Seat, Pack and Play, Stroller, Swing and other miscellaneous items. I want to have the entire baby room in place by mid March, just in case she arrives early OR I am just to tired to do anything.

Some of the other stuff we have coming up:

1/20-Another ultrasound! I know the only reason I am getting so many is because of the diabetes, but I still love it. They look at a 4-D image and you can see all of her little features! It is amazing

Next weekend I think we are heading to Oregon to visit Dan’s parents.

The last weekend in January I am going to Alaska to visit for a few days.

When I get back we start our birth classes on 2/1 and I start weekly (possible twice a week) stress tests for the baby.

I am throwing a coed baby shower for my brother and his girlfriend on 2/6! They are expecting a baby girl at the end of february/beginning of March!

Valentines Day!

Pregnancy Photos

So, I guess there is a lot of exciting things on the horizon. So I need to snap myself out of the boredem and get busy enjoying 13 more weeks of pregnancy.

I Need Advice!!

So, all of you moms who have gone through the process of stocking a nursery, WHAT DO I NEED?

My baby shower is being held in May, after the baby arrives so we are getting all of the stuff we will need right away. I do not want to go overboard though. SO, I am looking for advice, what is essential and what is not.

Here are a few things to know:

1. I am going to attempt breastfeeding but my feelings will not be hurt if she is not on board, so we may want to have formula feeding supplies on hand.

2. THis is what we have so far

  • Crib
  • Glider Rocker
  • 5 onsie outfits in NB
  • 6 outfits in the 3-6 month range
  • 8 outfits in the 6-12 month range
  • bouncy seat (for later)
  • All bedding except sheets
  • Diaper bag (from Coach! It is Gorgeous!)

3. This is what is next on our list to buy

  • Car seat/stroller travel system
  • dresser/changing table (although I am not convinced we will get something with a changeing table option. Everyone I know who has had one says they stop using them quickly. Thoughts?)
  • Pack and Play-We travel to Oregon a lot and I think it would be handy to have.
  • Swing

I am seeing all of these lists on the internet that say you need like 10-12 crib sheets and it is freaking me out! Do babies go through sheets that fast????

Anyway, any and all advice would help me out a TON!!!

The Holidays!

Well, the holidays are over and all of our house guests are gone. I was so sad to see them all go. Some people get stressed out when their family is around for to long, but I really enjoy it. It makes me sad we all live so far apart.

SOme of the highlights of our holiday included

  • A ten-day visit from my cousin Eva, her husband and stepdaughter.
  • A Christmas ship cruise around Lake Washington: The ship stops at different beaches and a choir sings. The coolest part is all of the private boats that are decorated and following the ship.
  • Decorating Gingerbread houses
  • A trip to Point Defiance Zoo to see the Light display
  • Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

We also had another ultrasound on the 23 to check the babies heart and they said everything looked great! They double checked that it is in fact a girl:)

Dan and I went to Ruth Chris Steakhouse for NYE, but fell asleep by 11 at home:)

So, in a nutshell our holidays were a lot of fun. Now that it is January we have a lot to look forward to/accomplish. Getting the babies room ready, birth classes, a quick trip to AK for me, work trip to Chicago for Dan and lots of other stuff.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with their loved ones and Happy New Year!
