Well, as most of you know our gorgeous amazing daughter has arrived. She was born at 3:28AM on April 11. Her name is Brielle Charlotte Peterson and she is amazing!
The birth did not go as I had planned, but in the end it was fine. We checked in at 5AM on April 10 and started the induction process. They started with a pill that was suppose to help ripen my cervix. After 4 hours they started a pitocin drip that induced contractions. At first it was not bad at all and then suddenly the contractions became a lot worse. Since my pregnancy/birth was considered high risk I had to stay on the fetal monitor the entire time so I could either labor in bed or stand next to the bed. I stood ALOT. At about 4pm they came in and broke my water. This was the worst part of the whole process. It was painful and so uncomfortable. My OB was hoping this would speed things a long for me. At 5 they offered me a drug that was suppose to take the edge off and let me relax and hopefully rest a little and dilate more. I had 3 doses of it and it was amazing. It gave me the feeling of a bit to much wine and I was able to really relax.
After the relaxing drug they checked me and I was only dilated to 4 cm. Dr. Anton said I could have the epidural, and she thought I could go a few more hours to see if anything changed. If not we would have to look at the c-section option. So, she said she would be back at 11PM to check. Between 7 and 11 there was a rush of pregnant people coming in the door. So, I did not see Dr. Anton till 230AM. At that point I was still at 4 , so we decided it was c-section time.
At 3AM we headed down to the c-section room and had our baby. I was so scared I just looked at Dan the entire time. The actual surgery was not to bad. When Brielle was born they took her away to be weighed and her blood sugar measured. She weighed 8lb 8oz and 21 inches long. Her blood sugar was a little low, so she had formula right away. After that her sugars were great for the next 24 hours so we did not have to have anything special done.
Anyway, I did not hold Brielle until about 2 hours after the surgery. I was so shaky from the drugs and the stress that I did not want to hold her. So my mom and Dan held her while I rested and then I finally held her and it was amazing! It is crazy to be so in love with someone.
Our hospital stay was great. The medical staff was amazing and helpful with all of our questions and concerns. Brielle seems to be a great sleeper during the day and then up all night. So both nights we were in the hospital the nurse offered to take her to the nursery for us to rest. It was hard to let her go, but we really needed the rest. So we had a good stay. Also, Dan and I were SO happy that my mom could be there with us while Brielle was born. She did not go into the c-section room since she gets squeamish. But it was so good for both of us to have her support during the labor. I am so thankful that Dan and my mom have such an amazing relationship and that he likes having her around as much as I do.
So, since we have been home we are getting into the swing of things. It has been difficult at nights when she does not want to sleep. But, all in all I think we are getting the hang of it. I have had some weird mood swings, lots of tears then totally happy. (if anyone else has experienced this let me know, sometimes I feel crazy!)
Also, I just want to say that my husband is AMAZING! He has been nothing but fabulous since the day we went to the hospital. He is fantastic with the baby and so helpful with my recovery. It is not like I expected less, but it is touching to see him bonding with our daughter. So now we have our little family and life is good!
